Edith Maryon (February 9, 1872 - May 2, 1924), accomplished English sculptress, is known by most anthroposophists as a helper to Rudolf Steiner in creating the sculpture group, The Representative of Humanity. Edith Maryon was one of Rudolf Steiner's most significant collaborators working side by side for a decade in artistic dialogue during the building of the First Goetheanum. You only need to read the words given by Rudolf Steiner in the memorial addresses for Edith Maryon to understand how as anthroposophists we owe her a huge debt of gratitude not only for her artistic legacy, but also how she modeled for each one of us earnest spiritual striving, selfless devotion, and a sense for the practical. Rudolf Steiner said, "She sacrificed her entire artistic gift on the altar of the anthroposophical cause."
He also said, "(her) accomplishments are really, symbolically speaking, recorded in the Golden Book of the Anthroposophical Society. Above all, they should be recorded deeply and lastingly in the heart-books of its members."
